A CENTURY of ladies golf at Roytson Golf Club will be celebrated this week - with a number of activities taking place, including a competition with hickory shaft clubs.

Kathy Musgrave of the Golf Club said: "The ladies' centenary is a big event for the club. And to celebrate the 100 years we've organised a week of activities. There will be lots going on and everyone involved is looking forward to it."

The programme also includes the ladies captain's competition, a memorabilia day, a centenary match against Gog Magog Ladies club, a mixed tournament, and a dinner and dance.

Kathy said: "Ladies' golf has come a long way over the years and it is a great event to celebrate. We have lots of memorabilia of the years, and it will be good for people to catch up. It promises to be a very good week."

- OLI Bance of Royston Golf Club has been crowned the County Boys champion after an impressive display in St Neots.

The four- handicapper, pictured, right, with Cambridgeshire Golf Union president Martin Start, completed rounds of 74 and 73, to win the title by two shots, despite having a double bogey at the last hole.

It completed a memorable week for the 18-year-old, after he retained his Junior Open title at Royston. He is also the current club champion and captain of the county Junior team.

In recognition of his hard work, Bance has also featured in the County B team this season, winning half his games.

Elsewhere, John Griffin won the June Medal with an impressive nett 67 to fend off his playing partner and junior member James Smith on countback. The result secured both a place in the Centenary Final in July.

Colin Swallow pipped Charlie Winter in Division 2 with both players finishing level on par 70. Gerry Agnew finished third on countback, ahead of four other players.

Greg Fyson continued his good form by winning the Junior Medal. His nett 67 ensured a two- stroke victory over Tom Clapham. Tom Trimble finished third and county girls player Lauren Hunt was fourth.
