DANIEL Gardner, a year 10 student at Marriotts School, represented Hertfordshire at the recent Aviva ESAA English Schools' Track and Field Championships.
Daniel. who is only 15, was competing in the under-17s boys' pole vault final and was hoping for a top five finish but performed outstandingly on the day and beat his previous personal best of 4.06m by 14 centimetres.
The result was enough to be awarded a silver medal as runner-up.
As a result, Daniel was invited to represent the English schools in the Home Countries Track and Field International in Antrim, Northern Ireland, last weekend where he faced athletes from Scotland, Wales and the whole of Ireland.
