ROYSTON bounced back from their mid week defeat at Kentish Town with a confident victory over mid table Brache Sparta at Garden Walk on Saturday.

Paul Attfield's side played with great spirit and energy throughout, but had to be patient against a well organised Brache who defended doggedly from the outset.

However, The Crows began to dominate with Tom Malins a lively threat down the right and captain Craig Hammond going close up front.

Chris Hardy tested the visiting defence with two powerful headers, before keeper Diego Vasquez made three excellent saves to deny Hammond, Malins and Graham Tibbals.

Then after the barrage, Vasquez was finally beaten, when Carl Edwards spread the ball to Malins, who clipped a brilliant pass to Hammond, and after timing his run to perfection the striker made no mistake with powerful angled drive.

It was much of the same in the second half, with Tibbals firing over from close range, and Vasquez denying one curled Luke Robins effort wide before Hammond hit the side netting.

Against the run of play, the visitors did offer a brief scare when Ben Smith's header was cleared from the Royston line by Robins followed by a half chance for Kevin McElroy.

But that was as good as it got for Brache, with The Crows' deserved second goal arriving minutes later with Hammond nonchalantly lofting the ball over Danny Tebbutt's head and volleying the ball into the bottom corner.

Two more goals followed with teenager Gregg Jackson bundling the ball home, before Hammond turned provider, finding Tom Galvin at the back post for a simple finish.

Attfield said: "I was delighted with every aspect of our game. We had to be patient with our build up play but we had a large number of presentable chances throughout.

"It was good to bounce back the way we did after our defeat on Wednesday and most of the football we played all around the pitch was of a very high quality.
