GREG Fyson won the Junior Medal at Royston Golf Club on Saturday, shooting a tremendous nett 65 in the tough conditions.

Playing against the stiff breeze he was level against his 20 handicap on the front nine and despite a triple bogey seven on the 13th, had a remarkable score of five over par on the back nine.

Eleven-year-old Jonathan Windle took the runners up spot with a fine nett 68, just ahead of junior captain, Tom Smith, who captured third place on countback from Matthew Barrett.

The Men's Saturday Medal was won by scratch player, Stuart Philips whose nett 71 was good enough to seal his place in the Medal Winners Final in October. Ben Bennett was second and Alan Warner third.

Bennett finished runner up again on Sunday, this time in the Daily Mail foursomes qualifier, with partner Derek Hayden.

They trailed in three points behind Keith Pitts and Barrie Parsons, who played some very steady golf to record 38 points.

Highlight of the round was a birdie two on the notoriously difficult 241 yard par three 12th. Bennett and Hayden pipped the duo of Barry Buckerfield and Adam Dyer, who continued his good form, on countback.
