140 pupils from Years 3 and 4 from Barley, Icknield Walk, Hormead, Layston, Millfield and Reed Schools enjoyed an afternoon of Fun in Athletics at Royston Leisure Centre last week.
Year 12 leaders from Freman College worked with the young people to enable them to learn and develop various skills related to the UK Athletics Sportshall Athletics programme which involves bouncing, jumping, running and throwing activities.
In the last 30 minutes of the afternoon the pupils were able to try out their new skills in some relays. All pupils met new friends as they were in groups with pupils from all schools.
Earlier this term Ken and Di Charles of Corvus Cornix Basketball Club organised festivals for mini basketball at the leisure centre involving 12 schools, with the pupils learning skills led by coaches and leaders and then play games to bring the session to a close.
