Fun and fitness were the order of the day for children taking part in a tag rugby festival.

The festival was run by Year 8 pupils - known as Young Sports Leaders - at Greneway School for Year 3 and 4 pupils, who also came from Icknield Walk, Reed, and Studlands Rise first schools.

The session, run by children for children, aims to cultivate a range of skills, including co-operation, integration, and determination, as well as a sense of individual and collective responsibility.

The leaders helped the younger children in coaching sessions which stressed enjoyment and teamwork, organised by Greneway's sport co-ordinators Terry Graves and Rob Dowler.

Each participant received a commemorative certificate.

Tag rugby is a fast moving non-contact version of the sport.

Suitable for both girls and boys, it now has a place in the Rugby Football Union's official under-nine teaching programme.
