FOXTON progressed in the league cup after making hard work of beating an under-par Fulbourn side on Saturday.

Manager Sean Audley rested both captain Ally Flack and Darren Chamberlain for the game, after Fulbourn turned up with only 11 players, bringing in Vinny Spina and giving a debut to 17-year-old James Gwynn at right back.

It was Foxton who started brightest and were ahead inside the first 5 minutes when the influential Barry Webber tapped in from close range after good work by Gwynn and Tokely down the right.

Foxton increased their lead when Adam Fields came in from the left and met a cross on the volley to fire an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net after 20 minutes.

The rest of the half was pretty un-eventful and half time came with the score still at 2-0.

The second half Foxton never got going, but when Chamberlain came on for Gwynn after 60 minutes manager Audley would not have expected the Fulbourn fightback which came almost immediately.

Fulbourn first pulled one back from a corner, then equalised almost straight away when their forward broke down the left, cut in before hammering the ball in the far post for 2-2.

It was Webber who was the hero for Foxton however, when he flew into the box and dived at a far post cross and headed into the top corner from eight yards to seal the win for the home side with five minutes to go, and advance Foxton into the 2nd round.

Foxton: Kimsey, Clark, Haynes, Audley, Tokely, Gwynn, Spina, Webber, Fields, Gray, Handscombe. Subs: Flack, Chamberlain, Cambridge.
