Foxton (171-6) beat Sawston (170 all out) by four wickets.

FOXTON continued to impress in Tucker Gardner Division One table as they chalked up their third win of the season over relegation candidates Sawston.

They were helped by a man-of-the-math performance from all-rounder Antonnel Atwell who took four wickets for just 27 runs off 9.4 overs as he ripped through Sawston's tail-ender before he changed ball for bat and hit an important 55 runs in the middle order to help his team to victory.

The impressive display was backed up Tyler Deas (5-0-21-2) with the ball and Lawrence Farnum (76) with the bat - Farnum now has a batting average of 76 from his nine games this season - as Foxton outmanoeuvred their opponents.

Batting first, Sawston were dealt a blow early on with the loss of Liam Flynn (8) who was caught and bowled by Max Bowen but they soon hit their rhythm with Wesley Potschul (30), Glen Goosen (12), Simon Warren (28) and Simon Potger (57) all making their way to double figures.

Deas made the early breakthroughs for Foxton, taking the wickets of Potschul and Goosen, before Warren was run out and Atwell took the first of his four when his ball to Potger was caught by Jeffrey Douglas.

Foxton eventually bowled their opponents out for a reachable 170 and in reply made the total with 18 of their allotted overs to spare.

It wasn't all easy going, however, as both openers - Douglas and Paul Dean - were out to Steven Smith while still in single figures.

In came Farnum at number three to steady the ship and the in-form batsman hit 14 fours and one six in his innings of 76, leaving first team manager Matt Gray to joke: "He just doesn't like running".

Farnum was ably supported by Attwell as Foxton dominated the Sawston bowl attack before he was eventually caught by Timothy Ikin, and Attwell was one of three Foxton batsmen to fall to an lbw call.

Attwell fell with Foxton needing 10 runs for victory, and these were soon wrapped up by Bowen (2), Deas (1no) and Dennis Sabey (4no).

Speaking about his side's victory, Gray said: "This was a really good win for us. We're just below mid table in the league and we've won two on the trot so we're keeping space between ourselves and the teams at the bottom.

"We gained promotion in the last two years and we knew this league was going to be tough and it is.

"However, it's a good learning curve for us to play against good players and teams with good depth, and I think we're matching them at the moment.

"If we played every week like we did at the weekend against Sawston I'd be delighted and we'd hopefully finish the season in mid table which would be a great achievement.
