FOXTON progressed to the next round of the Cliff Bullen Challenge Trophy after a comfortable win over local rivals Fowlmere.

The home side created some early chances but didn't take them and Foxton made them pay racing into a two goal lead.

Steve Hencher got the ball rolling heading home his first goal for the club following a free kick from the left.

Foxton's second was scored by Daniel Hoggarth, tapping home after Stuart Ogilvie's initial effort had been saved.

Fowlmere stopped the flow of goals until 20 minutes from time when substitute Ollie Pemberton marked his first team debut with a goal from the penalty spot.

The final goal came from Ian Cambridge who pounced on an error by the Fowlmere defence before calmly slotting past the advancing goalkeeper.

Afterwards Foxton manager Andy Cambridge was relieved to have avoided a cup upset but believed it could have been different had the home side taken their chances early on.

"If we're honest we deserved to win. It's only a mile or so down the road so there was a fair bit of local rivalry and it's pleasing to get past a potential banana skin," he said.

"They missed chances early on. Inside the first five minutes they had one where the lad was one-on-one but he's put it over the bar and soon after we're 2-0 up," he added.

"Credit to Fowlmere they gave it a go but I think it was costly they didn't take their chances. If they had we'd have been 1-0 down and it would've been a different mindset.
