FOXTON moved up to third in the league with an impressive display against Hemingfords on Saturday.

With striker Adam Fields away, Duncan Handscombe was put up front to help the returning Andy Gray, and it was Handscombe who opened the scoring after 20 minutes.

A great ball by Chris Haynes sent the striker into the box where he rounded two defenders before slipping the ball under the advancing keeper and into the net.

Hemingfords then had a good spell of possession and Foxton's defence had to be alert, with Andy Kimsey having to pull off a couple of saves to keep the lead.

With centre midfield partnership of Chris Aristo and the influential Barry Webber slowly starting to dominate proceedings, Foxton managed to increase their lead five minutes before half time after good build up play by the midfield pair, Andy Gray slotted home.

The second half Foxton had the wind behind them and soon had the visitors under pressure, and it was former Royston Town man Gray who netted his second, and the decisive third goal for Foxton when he was put through and beat the advancing keeper to flick the ball into the goal.

Kimsey again had to be alert when he somehow managed to tip a top corner strike round the post to sustain Foxton's three goal lead.

Boss Audley then decided to freshen things up, and brought on Vinny Spina at the back for the tiring Handscombe and pushed himself up front, and Foxton were rewarded when Audley climbed above the visitors centre half and placed a header in the far post for to complete the scoring.

- Foxton's run of home games continues on Saturday when West Wratting are the visitors, kick off 1pm.

Steeple Morden 5

Abington Utd 0

STEEPLE Morden notched up a fifth consecutive win with a convincing 5-0 victory.

A confident start saw Steeple play some good football and race into a 2-0 lead. Top scorer Ben Holt found the corner of the net to open the scoring following a flowing move involving wing-back Max Carlton.

Shortly afterwards, a series of long throw-ins from Andy Smith caused problems for the visitors' goalkeeper and under pressure the keeper conceded an own goal.

The visitors started to come back into the game but they could not breach the Steeple defence and the 2-0 lead was retained at half-time.

Soon afterwards, Martin Holt missed an opportunity to make it 3-0 after a fine run and cross from Joe Morris.

The third eventually came when an Abington attack broke down and Steeple swiftly counter-attacked through Morris and Ben Holt, with Holt leaving the defence trailing and smashing a shot into the roof of the net.

Man-of-the-match Charlie Proth-ero and Paul Hutley both went close with headers before Karl Parr found space and beat the keeper from 10 yards.

The scoring was completed after Parr and Holt linked up to put Jamie Murphy through and he made no mistake from the edge of the box with a crashing drive.

Great Chishill 2

CHISHILL maintained their perfect defensive record as they effectively controlled the game from start to finish.

Steve McGee had a chance in the first minute when he cut in from the left, but the keeper saved well as his shot was heading towards the top corner. The visitors were on top for most of the first half, but could not convert their chances. Jono Drury headed a free-kick towards the top corner, but again the keeper was equal to it.

The hosts had their best spell just before half time, as they hit a post from a tight angle, and Ian Gallagher had to tip a long range effort on to the bar.

The scores were level at the break but Chishill started the second half as well as they started the first. Peter Jackson hit the woodwork with a left-foot shot, but they soon found the breakthrough.

Elliot Drury's shot from the edge of the box was too powerful for the keeper to hold, and McGee buried the rebound.

The second soon followed, when substitute Gary Radford put McGee away down the left side. He cut inside, rounded the keeper and finished coolly to put Chishill firmly in control.

Although the home side continued to battle, they never really looked like pulling a goal back, apart from a free-kick that drifted just wide. Luke Tyler saw a couple of shots just miss the target, and McGee missed out on a hat-trick when his lob dipped just over, but Chishill ran out worthy winners in the end.
