Fowlmere 2 Great Shelford Res 1

FOWLMERE continued their rich vein of form by beating a strong Great Shelford Reserves.

Head coach Steve Walker has now seen Fowlmere stretch their unbeaten run to four matches and scoring 12 goals in the process.

He said: "It was another pleasing win for us on Saturday, against one of the league's strongest teams.

"We're certainly getting the goals, and were comfortable once more."

Former Cambridge United player Neil Robinson opened the scoring for the hosts after 15 minutes, as the midfielder linked well with Danny Mizon.

The hosts even matched their opponents in the physical battle, a feat Walker was particularly pleased with.

"They are a very physical side and to dominate them and control the game like we did was fantastic," he said.

"It's another aspect of our play that has improved. We played Great Shelford in pre season and they ran us off the park.

"We lost 5-1 and got absolutely battered.

"However, on Saturday we were on top of them from the start and handled their physical play really well.

"It was a great improvement from the last time we played them."

Great Shelford did grab a goal 10 minutes into the second half, when their striker bundled home from a corner.

But Fowlmere responded on the hour when Dan Caley crossed for Karyl Darcey to fire in an angled finish.

Fowlmere thought they had added a third late on, but Caley's strike was disallowed with the referee awarding Fowlmere a free kick instead of letting play continue after a Shelford defender pulled Mizon down for a red card.

- Fowlmere make the short trip to Barrington on Saturday at 12.30 pm.

Walker added: "It should be an interesting game. It will be tough but I'm confident we can get another three points.
