Ryan Ingrey’s brace helped Royston Town ease into FA Trophy third round qualifying with a 4-0 triumph over Southern League Division One South & West side Wimborne Town at Garden Walk on Saturday.

Captain Scott Bridges and substitute Frazer John completed the victory over the south coast outfit.

The visitors had the first effort on goal with a long-distance shot that sailed wide. From then it was mainly home pressure.

Firstly, on six minutes, Dan Brathwaite’s flicked header, from a Danny May free-kick, clipped the top of the bar and flew over.

Then Ryan Towner curled an effort wide and Adam Murray drove forward and hit a powerful strike that the Wimborne keeper did well to push away.

On 14 minutes the visitors created a decent chance that had the Crows scrambling.

Keeper Joe Welch partially stopped and then May made a last-ditch block to prevent Wimborne taking the lead.

Almost immediately the play shifted up the other end.

This time Towner got in a shot that the keeper could only palm up and Ingrey followed up with a firm header into the exposed net.

Ingrey found himself in the right place at the right time again in the 41st minute as this time Bridges’ low effort, following an under-hit corner, was again only deflected away and Ingrey shot accurately in for 2-0.

Welch again did well with a low save with his legs as Wimborne reacted and Royston kept the clean sheet intact up to half-time.

Into the second half and it was clear the next goal would prove vital.

Welch was again called into action and was equal to the challenge saving superbly.

The outcome was ultimately decided in the 64th minute when Royston added a third.

Martel Powell found some space on the right and his intelligent look and cross found a well-placed Bridges who headed home.

John was sent on for the returning from injury Josh Castiglione on 68 minutes.

With Wimborne’s resolve almost broken it was only going to be the home side that scored again and it came on 77 minutes.

A looping cross from the fresh-legged John evaded everyone and landed in the far corner of the net.

Royston will travel to Vanarama National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough in the next round on Saturday, November 26.
