Four-goal Saggers the star

CONOR Saggers took his season's tally to 17 goals, as his four strikes helped Royston Town Colts A under-13s to a 4-1 victory over Sawbridgeworth Juniors Blue.

Colts began well, besieging the Sawbridgeworth goal only to see the home side race up the pitch and score with their first attack of the game.

However, undeterred the Colts maintained their passing game, with Saggers striking the bar before latching on to a terrific pass form Harry Stafford to level the scores.

As the interval approached, Saggers was on hand to nod home a second following a cross from Jake Benstead.

Saggers then grabbed his first hat-trick of the season soon after the restart, following some good work from Lucas Sekobawane, with the Blues rarely threatening the Royston defence of Stafford, Mitchell Kilroy and Luke Ireland.

In the final quarter, Saggers bagged his and Colts' fourth from a superb Ashley Chapman through ball.

A late volley saw Buntingford Cougars under-12s take the points at Melbourn Dynamos Panthers in a narrow 2-1 win.

Panthers applied the early pressure and almost opened the scoring, with both Toby Jackson and Jack Richardson going close.

In midfield Melbourn were stronger too, with newcomer and man-of-the-match Callum Turner, and Joe Walsh competing for every ball.

With honours even for much of the first half, an unfortunate mix-up in the Melbourn defence saw Buntingford make the breakthrough just before half-time.

The second half started much like the first, with the Panthers defence holding firm and keeper Sam Robinson making a series of great saves to keep his side in the hunt.

However, as the game progressed the Panthers grew stronger and Cameron Douglas grabbed a deserved equaliser with a calm finish.

However, a few minutes later Buntingford won a free-kick deep in the Panthers half, and the resulting cross was brilliantly volleyed home.

Depleted Melbourn Dynamo Tigers under-10s made the trip to Hitchin Town Youth Bullets and impressed with a 3-1 victory.

Both teams got off to a strong start, but it was the hosts who opened the scoring when the Melbourn defence failed to clear a corner from the right, and a Hitchin striker was left with an easy ­finish.

But the visitors were back on level terms following some intelligent link play that saw player-of-the-match Will Thompson equalise with a back-heel.

At the other end Melbourn keeper Sam Carrington looked confident, with defenders Rebecca Brooker, Daniel Atkins and captain Oliver Steele keeping things tight at the back.

Just before half time Ben Breeze beat two players before finding Thompson, who slotted home his second of the match to put Melbourn in front.

Melbourn were rewarded with a third through Edd Twyman.

A battling performance saw Royston Celtic A under-10s home 3-0 against a determined Gresley Way Juniors side.

Returning from minjury, Jordan Cooney opened the score, firing home from Richard Jonas' cross. Jonas then went from provider to scorer moments later with his cool finish doubling the Celtic lead, before Callum Pinner went close.

The second half saw some more good play from Royston, with defenders Matthew Foley and Jordan Cooney working hard throughout. And Royston's play was rewarded when Lorcan George powered home a third following some clever play from Eamon Henderson and Jonas.

Royston Celtic B under-10s were not so fortunate, as they went down 2-0 against a strong Rising Stars side.

It was still an impressive performance from Royston, who never gave up, with Ian Kuenzi and Ethan Lewis working tirelessly in defence.

However, it was Rising Stars who proved the strongest with two well-taken goals, although Tom McGlynn almost reduced the deficit following Kuenzi's free kick.

Kieron Geraghty opened the scoring in Melbourn Dynamos Panthers under-nines' 2-0 win over Stevenage Borough Kestrels.

Melbourn dominated from the start, and only some fine saves from the Stevenage keeper kept the scores level early on.

However, Geraghty broke the deadlock with an accurate low drive just before half-time.

Melbourn doubled their lead when Josh Hutton ran unmarked into the box and left the Stevenage keeper stranded with a cool left-footed strike.

Melbourn Dynamos Tigers under-nines were also in fine form as they saw off Stevenage Borough Ospreys 4-2.

Melbourn got off to a bright start, with Henry Beagles rattling the Stevenage woodwork, while midfielders Joe Greeman, Jordan Mills and player-of-the-match Olly Johnson dictated the play.

Beagles opened the scoring after a neat pass from George Storey, before Storey hit a double, and Connor Patel made it 4-0.

The second half saw the Tigers reshape, with a few players moving out of position.

Although they continued to create chances with some telling crosses from the right, it was Stevenage who finished the stronger, scoring two late goals.

Buntingford Cougars A under-10s came out on top in their game with Royston Town Colts A, with a 3-0 victory.

The Cougars were deserved winners, despite Royston's strong start.

Rhys Westbury hit the post for Royston, but Cougars played to their strengths and stopped Colts from playing their normal attacking game, taking a deserved lead midway through the first half.

In the second half the Colts stopped passing and made too many mistakes, one of which led to Buntingford's second, from the penalty spot.

Buntingford upped the tempo and hit Royston with a third late on.

Royston Town Colts B under-10s also came unstuck and slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Buntingford Cougars B.

Buntingford could well have been out of sight at half time, if not for some brilliant goalkeeping from Troy Mayo, who did well to keep the score at 2-0 going into the break.

Thomas McGee gave Royston a little hope in the second half, when his free kick reduced the arrears.

However, the Cougars hit back with their own fine effort late on to seal a deserved victory.
