SANDON JMI School is heading to Wembley, with its under-11 footballers set to fulfil not just their own dreams, but those of every football fan in the country.

For the past month Wembley fever has swept the school after its talented youngsters were crowned South East England Small Schools Champions.

And on Saturday the team will battle it out with the three other finalists in the National Small Schools Final.

The tournament will take place before the England v Scotland under-18 match.

Team captain and centre-midfielder Matthew Stout said: "I can't wait to lead the players out - this is a dream come true! There are not many people that can say they have played at the new Wembley stadium - let alone an 11-year-old."

Vice captain and striker Jake Long added: "I think we can definitely win because we have a very good team. We're all really looking forward to it, and I would love to score the winning goal!"

Head teacher Margaret Gilbert said: "For a school with only 78 pupils to get to a national final is absolutely amazing.

"Win or lose this has been a fantastic experience.

"I'm extremely proud of the players and we have team coach Ruth Reynolds to thank for all her hard work and dedication. There's a lot of excitement around the school and village, and I think there will be 300 supporters going along.

"It's an out-of-this-world opportunity for the team and they really are living out their dreams!

"They've gone a long way towards putting Sandon on the map!
