PAUL Lewis' third hat trick in as many games was the highlight of Royston vets win over a physical but good Walkern side.

In the first half Walkern dominated possession with their slick passing movement without creating too many clear cut chances with town's keeper Merv Chaffey not having too much to do, but when Royston were able to attack they always looked dangerous with McArthur, their normal keeper, playing up front with Lewis due to Peter Leete being unavailable.

Royston took the lead after 30 minutes when Kevin Barthrop ran into the box and was pushed from behind to get a penalty which Lewis duly dispatched for the opening goal, but they were unable to add to this lead before the break.

In the second half Royston had more of the ball as Walkern began sluggishly and a decisive forward run and through ball to Lewis from James Eadie, making his debut, was drilled home into the top of the net leaving the keeper dumbfounded.

Walkern then pulled a goal back when Nick Humphries diverted a free kick into his own goal, but the two goal cushion was soon restored though when Nick Humphries put Lewis away to beat the keeper and complete his hat-trick.

The game then went from end to end until with only five minutes to go a cross from the left was ran into the empty net at the far post by Barthrop to complete the scoring in what was a very entertaining and free flowing game of football.

Next match is on Sunday away to Hemingford Grey
