Dullingham 8 Steeple Morden 2

DESPITE a recent run of good form, Steeple Morden came unstuck on Saturday with title-chasing Dullingham in rampant mood.

A crazy 20-minute spell that saw a combination of some sloppy defending by Steeple and a display of clinical finishing by Dullingham meant the visitors trailed 4-0 at half time.

Steeple keeper Andy Smith was beaten again just after the break, following poor marking, although Dom Holt and Charlie Prothero restored some pride.

Dom Holt knocked a perfect diagonal pass to Jamie Murphy who clinically finished on the half-volley from 10 yards.

Holt then sent Jason Clark clear and his cross was met by a fine diving header from Karl Parr to reduce the deficit to 5-2.

Martyn Lees drilled an effort just wide as Steeple threatened a dramatic comeback, but Dullingham bounced back with a spectacular sixth shortly afterwards and added two more that included an own goal from Martin Holt.

Manager Kenny Watters, who made his first playing appearance of the season in the final 10 minutes, will be looking for a return to form by Steeple in their final two games to maintain their place in the top six.

Steeple Morden: Smith; M Holt, J Watters, Donald, Collins; Murphy, Prothero, D Holt, Clark; Lees, Parr. (Subs): K Watters, Oxenford.

Steeple saw off league rivals Ashdon Villa with a comprehensive 4-0 victory. Youngster Dom Oxenford made an impressive debut, with Ben Holt, Charlie Prothero, and Martyn Lees (2) all on target.
