A FINE all-round team performance allowed Royston to come away with all of the points from this entertaining game of football.

Royston started brightly but it was Stevenage, with the advantage of the slope and wind, who had more possession but without really troubling the visiting defence.

In midfield the tenacious Charlie Stafford began to make his presence felt prompting most of the Royston attacks, with Tom Dolden going close on several occasions.

Royston eventually took the lead with a superbly struck Michael Pinner free kick, which from fully 25 yards out gave the Borough keeper no chance.

In the second half Royston looked the more dangerous side, with Dan Gilbert working tirelessly in midfield, and were rewarded 15 minutes in, when Charlie McDermott's neatly placed shot found the back of the Stevenage net.

Royston continued to press and it was no surprise when McDermott bagged his second goal of the game.

Mitchell York then opened his season's account, to round off the scoring. Stevenage to their credit continued to press forward and Rory Harper had to be at his best late in the game, to palm a snap shot onto the bar and away to safety.
