STEEPLE Morden got their promotion challenge back on track with an emphatic drubbing of strugglers Camden United Reserves.

Ben Holt gave Steeple the perfect start after being picked out by strike partner Martyn Lees, and Lees was once again the provider moments later when he chipped a ball forward to Charlie Prothero who controlled the pass superbly before striking his first goal of the season.

With only a minute of the half remaining Lees deservedly got in on the act himself when he converted a cross from skipper Dom Holt with a sweet half-volley.

The game was over as a contest within minutes of the restart when Dom Holt powered home a header from a corner taken by brother Ben, and the captain added his second of the game moments later when he hit the back of the net from 20 yards.

Ben Holt then extended the lead further when he tapped home his ninth of the campaign to level with Frankie Berry at the top of Steeple's scoring chart.

Recalled goalkeeper Andy Smith might as well have been asleep on a deckchair in his six yard box such was Camden's inability to properly test him, and the same goes for defenders Martin Donald, Graham Collins, Darren Jarman and Laurence Harrison.

The latter even found enough time to wander forward to head home Steeple's seventh..

Martyn Lees took his season's goal scoring tally to eight with two comfortable finishes before the end with an easy tap-in followed soon after by a poacher's finish.

Manager Kenny Watters said he was delighted with his team's response following a run of unfortunate defeats, and he was pleased to see the confidence and belief returning to the side.

Steeple will hope to follow up this fine win with a victory at unbeaten Dullingham on Saturday.

Steeple: Smith, Donald, Jarman, Harrison, Collins, Berry (Morris), D Holt, Prothero, Chapman (J Tidey), B Holt, Lees.
