TOWN'S second string travelled to Luton on Saturday and locked horns with high-flying Crawley Green - a team that had won their last six league games.

However, just like the first team's change in fortunes, Royston's reserves are also moving forward, and knocked six past one of the Reserve Division Two East's best teams for their third win in succession.

The hosts, who had already beaten Royston twice this season, started brightly, but The Crows did not buckle despite the early pressure.

And gradually the visitors turned the match, with Danny Crosk and Tommy Galvin running the game in the middle of the park.

And Royston's own spell of pressure was quickly turned into goals when Dave McMurrough chased the ball down and fed the ball to Danny Nicholls who slotted home with ease.

However, with half time rapidly approaching, the home side searched for an equaliser, which arrived when the referee awarded a controversial penalty.

A half-time tactical re-shuffle saw the introduction of Brett Purkiss and Lee Bates, who immediately supplied a pass for McMurrough to tap home from close range.

Bates then put the game beyond any doubt, finishing off Purkiss' through ball from 25 yards, before Galvin got some reward for his endeavour with his swerving free-kick crashing into the Crawley Green net.

McMurrough then rounded off his man-of-the-match display with two more goals that completed a hat-trick, the third of which was a superb lofted drive from the edge of the box.

Assistant manager John Bloss said: "Our last two games have been against two of the division's top teams and we have won them both in style - hopefully we can all continue to work hard and push on from here."

Royston Town Reserves: Cookson; Hardy, Bloss, Flack, Evans; Galvin, Crosk, Beaumont, Geldart; Nicholls, McMurrough. (Subs): Lowden, Bates, Purkiss.
