DAVE McMurrough scored five goals as Royston Town Reserves tore The 61 FC to pieces in a nine-goal rampage.

And the lively striker opened his account for the day after just 10 seconds, when he latched on to Ricky Young's pin-point through ball.

McMurrough made it 2-0 in the 10th minute, sprinting past the visiting defence and coolly slotting home.

Danny Crosk then celebrated his return to the side with Royston's third, firing in at the far post following a deep corner from the left, before their Luton-based opponents scrambled home a consolation.

However, The Crows remained focussed, with Chris Hardy and Liam Beaumont keeping things ticking over in the middle of the park, and as a result of their encouraging play and some clever approach work by Mark Evans, McMurrough notched his third.

Crosk all but sealed three points on the stroke of half time, when the midfielder pounced at the back post again for another well-taken finish.

After the break the hosts continued to push forward and they were rewarded midway through the half when Young supplied McMurrough with the ammunition for his fourth and fifth.

Captain Chris Geldart then got in on the act with two powerful drives eluding The 61 FC keeper, as Royston romped home with their best performance of the season.

Assistant manager John Bloss said: "Saturday's win was more than just about the goals.

"Our build-up play was fantastic, and although Dave McMurrough will grab the headlines, Ricky Young's contribution was immense."

Manager Kevin Wilson said: "Our tempo was breathtaking at times and it was good to see so many goals go in.

"I'm sure there will be sterner tests to come, but this was still a very enjoyable win.
