Royston Celtic White U-11 0 Shefford Saints 2 CELTIC were unable to christen their new kit with a victory as they found league champions Saints too strong. After losing 6-1 in the reverse fixture, Celtic set about the task of becoming the first team to beat the newly crowned champions this season with some fine free-flowing football. Celtic played with pride, passion and commitment, and for much of the game were the better team. Matthew Ruskin went close with three efforts in the first half all just wide of the far post, while at the other end goalkeeper Jamie Smith produced a fine reaction save to deny Shefford. Enforced formation changes were made when Alexander Dunbar was taken off through injury at half-time as a result of a badly timed challenge from a Shefford midfielder. During the second half Celtic continued with the good football that has earned respect from many of the opposition encountered this season- with little in the way of reward. Ruskin was again unfortunate not to score with another chance created, again, falling on his weaker foot. Shefford then took the lead when a rare opportunity in on the Celtic goal came from the right, the visiting striker struck a sweetly timed curling right-foot shot in the top left hand corner of Smith's goal. Celtic set about the task of trying to equalise, and played with purpose, causing problems to the Shefford defence until a one-on-one came as a result of an excellent through ball from a Shefford midfielder. The striker ran into the Celtic area where he was tripped by the keeper, and the resulting penalty was beautifully dispatched with composure to seal the victory for the visitors.
