THE Edward Jolly Boys of Guilden Morden are through to the next round of the VB Trophies League Cup after seeing off higher opposition in the White Bear.
And it was the visitors who started the brighter of the two sides, with the Jolly Boys defence immediately pressed back as the White Bear pinned back the hosts with some good attacking football.
However, despite their early dominance they were unable to capitalise on their possession as the home side began to find their feet, with midfielders Derry Warren, Liam Austin, and Steve Cook coming to life.
And after their own spell of possession the hosts were soon in front midway through the first half, when Gary Radford was played through and finished with a cool strike from the edge of the box.
Minutes later, the Jolly Boys doubled their lead following some good play from Austin and Radford, who played in Steve Cook.
And when Cook rounded the visiting keeper he made sure with a tidy finish from a tight angle.
The second half was again close as both teams fought for supremacy, although it was the home defence of Colin Saward, Oli Gardner, and Craig Ellis that were the busier, as their clever defending kept the White Bear attack at bay.
Both teams also had decent penalty shouts turned down as the play flowed from end to end.
However, it was the hosts who finished the stronger and could have extended their lead with a couple of half-chances before the final whistle.
- The Jolly Boys will now look to take their recent good form into Sunday's derby clash with Litlington.
