STEVE Beattie hit a hat-trick as Melbourn overcame a poor start to take the Crow League points.

The return to the A team of Cameron Short was much needed in defence as Melbourn kept the Hares at bay. Melbourn finally awoke with Beattie going close from a long range shot and then being put through by Josh Joyce to score the first.

Shortly after there was a repeat of this excellent move seeing Daniel Allison feed the ball through to Beatie who struck an excellent second for Melbourn,

The Hares started the second half by hitting the bar followed by a fine parry from the in-form Melbourn keeper, Scott McGee.

A good simple passing game by Melbourn continued to flow with some brave defending from Sam Chamberlain seeing them retain their lead.

Finally a great ball fed through the middle again found Beattie, who almost burst the back of the net to get his treble and put Melbourn into a fine position to get their first win of the season.

A late attack from Melbourn saw a strong break on the wing with a fine cross being met by Harry Carter to make it 4-0.
