DESPITE losing leading scorer Lee Bates just before kick off to a foot injury Royston secured the points against their local rivals with a comprehensive victory.

Leading by example, skipper Brett Purkiss opened the scoring when he headed home a well delivered free kick from Rob Gwynne.

Stand-in striker Mark Evans notched the second and third goals before James Bass continued on his path of improvement when he added Royston's fourth just before the interval.

The home sides best goal of the game came from a well worked pass and move passage of play with James Merideth converting a neat Mark Evans back heel.

Royston's habit of taking their foot of the pedal again came to the fore which allowed Buntingford to capitalise on two defensive lapses and grab two goals back.

The hosts then woke from their mid-match slumber and increased the lead through the ever maturing Purkiss whose low drive was deflected in off a defender.

Bass showed that there is more to his game than just hard graft with a blistering drive from the edge of the box and Evans completed his hat-trick with a 45 yard free kick that seemed to catch Buntingford's keeper totally unaware.
