AN injury time winner condemned Fowlmere to their fifth consecutive defeat as Duxford United extended their lead at the top of the BIS 1A Division.
The visitors broke the deadlock after 30 minutes with the Fowlmere defence caught napping following a throw in.
However, Fowlmere were back in the game just before half time, when George Kew fired in a 25-yard strike.
In the second half the league leaders threw everything at their hosts, but it was Fowlmere who had the better chances, with Dan Caley and Shaun Douglas both forcing saves from the Duxford keeper.
But Fowlmere suffered a cruel blow in injury time, with Tom Fulk beaten at his near post following a deflected header.
Fowlmere manager Steve Walker said: "It was disappointing to lose out in stoppage time. I thought that we played well and we should have taken something from the game.
"We've now lost five games on the spin. But we haven't been playing badly, we've actually had some very good performances and played some good football - it's just not going our way."
Fowlmere have the chance to bounce back this Saturday when they entertain sixth-placed West Wratting Reserves.
Walker said: "All we can do is re-group and get back out there. It's gone a bit pear-shaped lately, but I'm confident that if we get a few good results that we'll be back up there."
Fowlmere: Fulk; Reynolds, King, Sewell, Kew; Kenzie, Robinson, Darcey, Ward, Caley; Douglas. (Subs): Fidgett, Walker, Poole.
