ANDY Cambridge exhaled a huge sigh of relief after seeing his team stave off a first half beating to claim a win against their promotion rivals.

A Matt Hayden penalty and goals from Dan Hoggarth and Nathan Davenport helped Foxton to all three points in a result which will act as a confidence booster ahead of their top-of-the-table clash against West Wratting next Saturday.

The home team produced wave after wave of attack early on but they must have been wearing clogs instead of boots as they managed only one shot on target as the rest of their shots fizzed wide.

Foxton came out in the second half relieved to be still in the game and on 55 minutes broke the deadlock.

A half cleared corner fell to Hoggarth about 20 yards out and his first time shot hit the bottom corner.

Girton again pushed forward, but Chamberlain denied them with a spectacular double save and Foxton doubled their lead on 70 minutes when Stuart Ogilvie was brought down in the box and Hayden coolly dispatched the penalty.

Girton pushed on but Foxton countered and Davenport scored their third and final goal of the game.

Andy Cambridge said: "Three nil was a very strange score especially after the first half when I felt we could and probably should have been at least four behind.

"In the second half however I thought we were the better side and more importantly we managed to take our chances."

Foxton: J Chamberlain, D Chamberlain, Ranner, Hoggarth, Margiotta, Lawrence, Hayden, Aristo, Tokley, Fields, Davenport. Subs: Smith, Ford, Ogilvie.
