Royston completed their fourth pre season game in North Norfolk against tough opposition in the form of Ridgeons Premier League side Wroxham.

The hosts have always been a top side in their division and gave Paul Attfield's squad, which is still suffering from a number of players being unavailable, a very tough work-out.

The opening stages were end to end with Wroxham's lovely playing surface suitable to the strengths of both sides.

The home 'keeper pulled off three stunning saves from Joe Tyler, Carl Edwards and David Cain and, unfortunately, Royston's defence was breached twice in the first half with a close range finish and a crisp 20-yard strike.

On a warm day Attfield only had the 13 players to rotate while injuries picked up by Tyler and Chris Mulins did nothing to help the situation.

But Royston played better football in the second half although chances were difficult to come by as both defensive units did their jobs well.

Jorden Gibson made one excellent diving block midway through the half and, with 10 minutes remaining, Royston deservedly reduced the deficit when Ricky Young's looping header from Jez McMurrough's cross went in off the far post.

Try as they might, Royston could not find an equaliser in the closing stages with Wroxham holding to for the win.
