FOLLOWING his debut hat-trick the inform Melbourn striker Ben Wright scored after just six seconds in this Creake Shield encounter - however, it wasn't to be enough.
Straight from kick off, Andrew Morris played the ball through the channel for the on-running Wright who slammed the ball past the advancing home keeper.
However, their excellent start almost came unstuck within minutes, with Melbourn keeper Glenn Pearse rescuing his team mates with a number of saves.
And it was the visitors who remained in control, and the next goal did not come until the 80th minute.
Unfortunately for Melbourn it was the Whittlesford equaliser.
Melbourn then lost Andrew Morris through injury four minutes later, with only manager Mick Walker to call upon.
And Walker's presence on the field must have been felt, as his team went back in front four minutes into extra time.
However, when they lost Lionel Griffin through injury, their heads dropped, and with a man down found the going tough.
And their spirits were further dented when a bizarre own goal somehow cannoned over the head of Pearse for another Whittlesford leveller.
The home side then scored two more goals before the first period of extra time came to an end, and gave the visitors a seemingly uphill task.
However, shortly after the restart, Andrew Harrington's cross was delightfully slotted home by Walker to give his side a fighting chance of a comeback.
But it was not to be as Whittlesford hit back with another well-taken strike and one that ended Melbourn's Creake Shield hopes.
