HORMEAD HARES' under-10 side set themselves up for the Crow league title after defeating previous leaders HC Cougars 3-0, on Sunday.

Hosts Hares had the majority of the game and made the Cougars keeper make two good saves early on.

The Hares' defence of Joe Parrott and James Nightingale were impressive throughout, snuffing out the potent Cougars strikers. Craig Brett, Ewan Edwards and Luke Barker were superb in midfield and Robbie Levy was a constant threat.

The pressure finally paid off with a rasping 20 yard drive from Edwards that gave the keeper no chance.

Hormead doubled their lead just before half time with a superb break and neat pass from Brett, that saw Barker shoot first time from an acute angle that beat the keeper.

The second half was a tighter affair with Cougars coming back into the game. Callum McDonald in goal pulled off a couple of good saves and handled well under pressure from a barrage of corners.

Seven minutes from time Max Clayden came on and again, following some neat passing, slotted home from the edge of the box.

It was an awesome team performance and if Hares win their final league game then they will be crowned champions of Division C

Meanwhile, a looping header from Sam Benjamin gave the under-14s victory in a friendly at Hertford Town Youth.

Despite allowing Isleham Colts two equalisers, Hares under-12 girls side won 3-2 on Saturday.

A pair of Katie Jennings goals put Hares 1-0 and then 2-1 up, but it was Summer Winkworth who grabbed the winner after Hares had hit the woodwork three ties.

There was also success for the under-14 girls team at Histon Hornets as their depleted side ran out 7-0 winners.

A hat-trick from Amy Marr, a brace from Vicky Hilton, one from Yasmin Pratt and an own goal sealed an impressive win.
