FOXTON boss Sean Audley was seething after his side were beaten at Hemingfords on Saturday.

"Basically the referee cost us the game," fumed Audley.

"The first goal was a foul on goalkeeper Andy Kimsey, and the third goal was given, even though the player was offside, but he over-ruled the linesman.

"The referee was from the lower league, normally handling reserve teams in the BIS League Division Three, and whether the occasion of reffing in the Kershaw League, and the crowd got to him, we don't know, but it certainly cost us."

Audley's team travelled to Hemingford sure that the game would not go ahead after heavy rain, but the match started in near farcical conditions, with the pitch covered in water and ankle deep in mud.

However, it was Foxton who adapted to the conditions best, and dominated the first 25 minutes but were unable to take advantage, through a combination of mis-timed efforts, good goalkeeping, and sheer bad luck.

However, after 35 minutes Hemingford in one of their first attacks, scored from a corner, after what Foxton claimed was a blatant push on keeper Andy Kimsey.

Foxton then withstood pressure with Andy Gray in fine form at the heart of the defence.

But worse was to come for Foxton 10 minutes after the interval when Hemingfords caught them on the break and a good finish at the back post made it 2-0.

Foxton were rocked again five minutes later, when a good far post ball was met by an onrushing Hemingford forward, who finished with a fine volley, with Foxton claiming offside.

Player-boss Audley then had a great chance to reduce the arrears, but somehow the Hemingford keeper managed to keep the ball out.

Audley then took himself and Duncan Handscombe off, and brought on Chris Coates and Tom Williamson, gambling players forward, but Foxton were unable to reduce the arrears.

Foxton: A Kimsey, I Tokely, A Gray, C Haynes, J Gwynne, D Chamberlain, B Webber, A Flack, D Handscombe, S Audley, A Fields Subs: A Cambridge, C Coates, T Williamson.

- Foxton are away at Ely City reserves on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
