FIVE of Greneway School’s Year 8 football team have been selected for North Herts Schools’ FA Representative squad.

The trial for the best players in the district was held at John Henry Newman School (Stevenage). The successful players were Matt Houghton, James Edwards and Connor Sandford while Jack Logan and Ryan Morgan were also selected on standby.

The team will face Watford Schools in their first Inter-District league match on Thursday.

Assistant headteacher, Terry Graves, who took the boys to the trial, commented: “This is a great opportunity for these young players to step up to the next level and I feel sure that the Inter-District competitions will really move their learning on as elite players”

Former North Herts Schools’ U13 players include current professional players Jack Wilshere, Matt Oakley and Kevin Phillips.
