FOXTON made it five league wins in a row despite manager Andy Cambridge questioning the decision to play the game on a pitch bogged down by dreadful conditions.

Goals from Adam Fields, Conrad Wellstead and Daniel Hoggarth sealed all three points for Foxton, but after the game Cambridge said: "Due to the pitch conditions I'm not totally convinced that this game was playable. It was very wet and heavy through the central areas."

Despite his concerns about the surface, Cambridge was wise enough to change his tactics accordingly and his team played plenty of their football down the wings were the pitch had held up a little bit better.

Adam Fields started brightly for Foxton and had a chance early on as he out-paced the Hemingford defence, but the ball would not settle and he screwed his shot wide.

This early miss didn't put him off, however, and soon afterwards he gave Foxton the lead when he received the ball on his chest about 20 yards from goal.

The home team's defenders gave him too much space and time which enabled him to turn and smash an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Not one to be outdone, Carlow Lawrence almost got himself a goal as he cut inside from the right beating two Hemingford defenders to get into the box where he created a shooting chance but shot narrowly over the bar.

Foxton were now on top and managed to mount some sustained pressure on the home team as they continued to get the ball forward.

Eventually this pressure paid off when a poor attempted clearance from the goalkeeper only got as afar as found Wellstead who simply passed the ball into the now vacant net.

Hemingford made a concerted effort to get back into the game with a host of balls into the Foxton area and the away team then rode their luck slightly with two goal line clearances from a set piece to keep their two goal cushion at half time.

But it wasn't to last as the home team were gifted the perfect start to the second half when within two minutes they got a goal back following a random free kick decision when the set play was hit under the feet of jumping Foxton wall and nestled in the left hand side of the goal.

A scrappy 15 minutes followed which included some lively challenges being made by the home team as they attempted to discourage Foxton's game.

Foxton had brought on Daniel Hoggarth to replace Ian Cambridge and he got in on the act with Foxton's third goal.

Fields had broken away down the left and cut into the box leaving a trail of defenders struggling to keep up with him before hitting a shot at goal which the keeper could only parry, but the ball bounced in front of Hoggarth who slotted home.

As the game entered the final few minutes Foxton keeper Jamie Chamberlain pulled off some miraculous saves to earn his team a deserved three points.

Manager Andy Cambridge said: "I think we adapted well and directed most of our play down the flanks which caused them some problems.

"I thought we defended well also with Max Margiotta in particular having an excellent game in a somewhat unfamiliar role, although I was pleased with how everybody played their part in what was a hard fought dogged performance."
