ROYSTON recorded a double success in the Meldreth & District Bowls League last week with wins against Chesterton and Duxford.

The visit to Chesterton proved relatively simple, as the rinks of mixed triples had an easy win on all rinks to gain the maximum seven points - three for a win and one for each winning rink.

Duxford put up a good fight, but Royston won on three rinks but lost on one by one shot. An overall win bought them another six points.

Royston also played Holwell BC at home in the county 2x4's competition. This was a closely fought game with Royston winning by just five shots, 36-31.

There was also success for the club's ladies' team when they played away to Watford BC in the county Top Ten competition.

They put up a superb performance, winning the fours, skipped by Eunice Dockree 24-9.

The triples, skipped by Evelyn Huffer, won 22-14 and Marian Collinge and Shirley Pawson won the doubles 25-20. But Yvonne Whitehouse just lost her singles match by six shots, 21-15.

In other games, Royston travelled to Bishop's Stortford in a friendly of four mens' rinks. Both teams won on two rinks, but Stortford edged the win 83-71.

Last Sunday Royston travelled to Bushey in the Top 10 competition. Royston's young teenager, Matt Coppen, gave his team a good start by winning his singles game 21-8.

The fours, skipped by Peter Adams had an easy win of 29-10, which was closely followed by Mick O'Flanagan's triples who won 31-16.

The pairs lost by six shots, but Royston comfortably progressed with a 94-53 victory.

Royston played away to Sawbridgeworth on Sunday May 21 in an afternoon friendly of four rinks of men, and two rinks of ladies.

All were looking forward to an afternoon of bowling, but heavy rain curtailed the match at 12 ends. Royston just managed a wet win by nine shots. Royston 63. Sawbridgeworth 54.
