GRENEWAY stormed into the final of the Year 7 North Herts Cup with a fine performance last week.

Visitors Highfield were immediately under pressure and Ellis King rattled their bar with a tremendous long-range shot.

The hosts maintained the pressure and it was more good work from King out wide that created the first goal of the game his cross was neatly dispatched into the bottom corner by Kieran Willis-Wright whose clever movement had enabled him to lose his marker.

Greneway added a second shortly after when a well rehearsed corner was met powerfully by Matt Brennan.

The pressure was too much again for the visitors when they were forced into a mistake which left Ryan Bowles to volley into an unguarded net.

Highfield managed to stay positive at this point, and created an opening of their own, only to be denied by a good reaction save from Conor Long.

Greneway's most effective football at this point was being played down the wings with Micael Vieria-Roodenburg and Harry Stafford linking up well from full back. Greneway went in 3-0 up at half time, but knew they were in for a tough second half playing into a strong wind.

As expected Highfield came out strong in the second half, pinning Greneway back. The pressure eventually paid off when they found the net with a wind assisted shot from the edge of the box.

Greneway eventually started to find their feet in the second half with good controlled football.

This was slowing the momentum of their opponents, and both teams knew that the next goal was going to be crucial.

It was Greneway who got the goal after a clever flick from Ashley Chapman and after some great work out wide, a neatly threaded pass found its way through to Brennan, who was left to tap the ball into an empty net.

Greneway had the ball in the net again five minutes later, after King managed to dig out an inch-perfect cross to find Bowles at the back post to finish easily.

The visitors were not done yet, and managed to pull one more back with a well- struck free kick from the edge of the box, but it was it was too late to stop the Royston school progressing to the final.
