After a hugely successful 2014, Barley Village Cricket Club is looking expectantly ahead to the summer and what 2015 might bring.

With indoor nets getting underway this Sunday, February 8, the village team is encouraging people to dust off their pads, dig out their cricket bat from the back of the shed or indeed pick one up for the very first time.

Barley, made up of enthusiastic locals varying in age from 14 to 70, and covering all abilities, stormed to victory last season, winning both their leagues.

The cup team also shone, reaching the final of the Cambridgeshire Cricket Association Invitation Cup.

In addition, the friendly Sunday side saw experience and youth come together, enjoying some competitivegames against other local sides.

Club chairman Eddie Collins said: “Village cricket is great fun, whether you’re a young person inspired by the England team, a student returning from university or an older player who is keen to get back into the sport.

“With an Ashes summer to look forward to, it is a great time to join your local village side.”

If you are interested in joining the club, take a look at their website -- www.barley.play-cricket.com - or go down one Sunday for nets.

Alternatively, for more information about joining Barley, contact either first team skipper, Brian Symes on 07814 710849, second XI skipper Craig Jackson on 07807 835422 or for anything about the club and ground, phone Collins on 01763 848788.

Sunday nets will take place at Burloes Hall Farm Cricket Centre, Royston, beginning at 1pm, ending at 3pm.

Costs are set at £5 per person with £3 for juniors (under 13 years old).
