ROYSTON Tennis Club held its annual mixed doubles and junior tournaments at the weekend.

On Sunday 15 youngsters from six-14 entered the junior competition which was both exciting and highly contested.

The Mini Red tournament was won by Jack Lester with Alice Clarke runner-up, while the combined Mini Green and Mini Orange competition was won by James Lee with Leo Pickett second.

The junior tournament that featured nine of the club's most talented youngsters was another close competition.

After a number of impressive displays Alex Wilson took home the Junior Cup, with Sam Tobiss and Andrew Betts finishing second and third respectively.

On Saturday, 14 senior members contested the popular Randall Trophy.

Only one game separated the winners, with Christine Knight and Richard Fosbeary taking the trophy, ahead of Helen Hastings and Andy Holmes.

- The club has received a £3,000 grant from the Local Network Fund, an initiative of the Government's Every Child Matters strategy, which aims to improve the lives of children and young people.

Administered by the Hertfordshire Community Foundation, the grant allows voluntary and community groups to develop projects and activities for young people with limited opportunities and access to services.

Club chairman Len Bell said: "This grant will make a big difference and will help to fund equipment and coaching for the mini and junior section of the club.
