ROYSTON Golf Club captain David Drake and professional Sean Clark led the field, in a four ball stableford on the Heath on Sunday. With a cold north-easterly wind making the back nine play extremely difficult, the pair accumulated 43 points, aided by Clark's 325-yard drive and eagle putt to the par four second hole. Runners up were Mark Hill and Dave Rowell with 42 points, who had an excellent inward nine of 23 points. Eric Baker and Malcolm Meeson-Smith secured third spot on countback from Martin Shipley and Peter Dunbar. Brian Holson won the Saturday stableford, played on arguably the coldest day of the year, with 33 points. The countback rule was again needed to separate the next three players, who all tied on 32 points. Mark Bonnett finished second, Lee Richardson third, and club champion Stuart Phillips fourth. Tracey Parsons won the silver division of the ladies extra medal, with Alice Lewis pipping Jo Hilliard for the bronze division. The top three players at the club, Stuart Phillips, Mark Rogers, and Robert Clark, played in the final county trials fixture at Elton Furze Golf Club on Sunday. All three will be part of the county squad when fixtures commence in April.
