Foxton 6 Hardwick 1

FOXTON wrapped up their home campaign with a 6-1 drubbing of Hardwick, on Saturday.

What could have proved to be a tricky match on a hard ground and in hot weather, the home team blasted out from the blocks.

From the very first minute Foxton were putting constant pressure on the Hardwick back line, managing to carve out numerous half chances, none of which they could take.

Duncan Handscombe eventually broke the deadlock as he manoeuvred himself into space on the right hand side of box, where he struck a low shot across the Hardwick keeper into bottom corner.

Foxton went 2-0 up shortly afterwards, a quick throw from near the halfway line which was knocked back into box by Ally Flack to Sean Audley who then teed up Barry Webber to strike home from the edge of the area.

The second half started with home team seemingly asleep. Foxton lost the ball on the attack where a Hardwick player collected the ball, then running from just inside the half was unchallenged all the way to the 18 yard box, where he shot and beat an unsighted Andy Cambridge in goal.

Hardwick now buoyant then pressed looking to exploit Foxton's lack of alertness, but that came to end as Duncan Handscombe scored his second and Foxton's third.

A long Andy Gray throw bypassed the Hardwick defence landing at the feet of Handscombe at the back post, where he tapped in from close range.

From this point Foxton were back in control and moments later increased the lead with Audley the scorer as he neatly found space inside the area then struck home from 12 yards.

Hardwick fell even further behind after a surging Webber run took him past two defenders into the area where he was then brought down.

The referee awarded Foxton a penalty which was coolly finished by Handscombe for his hat-trick.

It was Iain Tokley who completed the scoring for Foxton. He received a pass inside the Hardwick area where he wrong footed a defender then slid the ball under the oncoming keeper.

Girton 1 Foxton 3

DUNCAN Handscombe's second hat-trick in as many games gave Foxton the points in their final league game, on Tuesday.

With the cup final match between these two teams looming neither side was at full strength and although Foxton were creating numerous chances they found themselves 1-0 down.

A nicely angled shot across Andy Cambridge in the Foxton goal hit a post before nestling in the back of the net.

Foxton continued to create opportunities and eventually Handscombe equalised with a header at the far post to go in at half-time all square.

The pattern to the second half was very similar with Foxton having the greater chances and they took the lead when Handscombe again scored with a header, leaping highest to a Chris Aristo corner kick.

This was followed shortly afterwards when Handscombe saved his best for last with a sublime turn and volley from 25 yards out, looping over the keeper and into the net, securing the points for Foxton.
