Drage: We can go on to win the league

ROYSTON remain unbeaten after an impressive victory over Southgate Adelaide.

The hosts started strongly, and it seemed only a matter of time before they opened the scoring.

Skipper Andy Drage got the first goal from the penalty spot, before Dan Smith deflected in a brace and Graham Mack added the fourth with a calm finish.

Royston took their foot off the pedal a bit in the second half, although keeper Chris Markham remained largely untroubled.

Morné Joubert got the fifth goal with a crisp strike at the death.

Drage said: "This was a good victory, but we could have scored nine or ten today.

"There have been strokes of brilliance so far this year, but we must maintain our performances and pass the ball better against the stronger teams.

"If we do that, we can definitely win this league."

SKIPPER Nick Broadley believes availability of players will be the key to his side having a successful season.

After Royston comfortably dispatched a strong Blueharts side, Broadley said: "We played well today and showed our mettle, but there is a long way to go. We must keep focused."

Although Blueharts opened the scoring, Royston soon hit back with two goals from Arnie Whittaker. In the second half Whittaker completed his hat-trick, while Andy Symonds and Nick Broadley added further strikes.

TWO goals from Royston's Paul Bloomfield proved to be the difference between the sides in this tightly-contested match.

Bloomfield opened the scoring in the first half, skilfully going round the keeper and tapping the ball into the empty net. Welwyn soon equalised with a fine goal of their own, but Colin Bateman's powerful shot restored Royston's advantage.

A spell of early second half ­pressure resulted in a second Welwyn equaliser, but Bloomfield had the final say with the winner.
