IN an honest assessment of his team's performance Fowlmere head coach Steve Walker said: "We were very poor and they were very good."

After a string of impressive victories Fowlmere came crashing down to earth as Litlington ran out comfortable winners.

And after taking the lead inside 10 minutes, the visitors went into the break 4-0 up with Fowlmere completely undone by Litlington's intelligent play and superior finishing.

And according to Walker, Litlington have the league's most lethal striker on their books in the form of Declan Shilton, who devastated the hosts' backline with a well-taken brace that included a contender for goal of the season.

Dennis Norman fired home Litlington's fourth before an own goal either side of Shilton's two strikes seemingly condemned Fowlmere before the interval.

Litlington's fifth also came courtesy of an own goal, after some good work by Terry Woods midway through the second half.

Walker said: "I was particularly impressed with Shilton's performance.

"He caused us a lot of problems throughout the match.

"On the day he was different class. We couldn't cope and he dominated the aerial battles and led their attacks on the floor.

"For me, he's probably the best striker in the league."

However, Walker was less positive about his own team and even questioned his tactical choices.

He said: "I've got to hold my hands up. Usually I get things right, but on Saturday I was tactically naïve.

"I was as much to blame as the players and I know I should have changed things earlier than I did.

"When I did change things we looked much better, and as a result we played quite well in the second half, but the damage had already been done.

"On the day we were very poor and they were very good.

"We didn't deserve anything from the game and they played very well all over the pitch. They took their chances well and scored five really good goals - at times they ripped us to pieces."

Fowlmere missed the chance to move up the BIS League Division 1A table.

As a result Litlington move up to fourth - three points behind third-placed Duxford United.

"There's still plenty to play for," said Walker.

"It's only our second league defeat of the season, so we've got to stay positive. We're still up there, and fifth place is not a bad position to be in at the moment.

"We'll have a look at some areas of improvement and re-group ahead of Saturday's game with Girton United Reserves.

"We drew 2-2 with them earlier in the season, and it's a game we should realistically be looking to win - hopefully we can bounce back straight away.
