Under-10s Division E&F

THIS was another game decided by one goal with a familiar pattern of Shephall going behind, fighting back but not quite having the edge to get a result.

There was little to choose between the two teams with Sam and Kieran solid in defence and Reece as energetic as ever closing players down.

After Knebworth took the lead midway through the first half, Shephall responded firstly with a good move down the left - Matty with a long pass down the line to Harris who flicked the ball first time inside into the path of Tom - then shortly afterward with a shot whipped in by Tom that forced a save.

Then a goal from an excellent bit of football Reece broke down the right and delivered a cross at pace that was met by Matty who powered a header home for the equaliser.

Early in the second half Knebworth took the lead again with a sloppy goal from a Shephall perspective and the hard work of finding another equaliser had to start again.

A superb corner from Tom knocked down by Reece gave Kieran a half chance while at the other end Sam saved at point blank range and later on made another fine save from a shot that was heading for the top corner.

Shephall pressed for a second goal and Tom's crosses and corners nearly set up the chances to find a way through.

Then with a minute to go, Matty found space on the left and struck a shot from outside the area that hit the bar but Knebworth held on for a narrow win.

Man-of-the-match went to Matty.

THE boys gave a spirited performance in this game but were undone by some excellent Knebworth play and several superbly struck goals.

Although Knebworth had the better of the game, Shephall had their moments.

James O delivered a series of excellent corners that Knebworth struggled to clear, Oliver nipped in to clear the danger when three Knebworth players broke through and William's huge kicks in to the opposition half nearly caught out the defenders with James running through.

Knebworth came off at half time with four well worked goals.

There was only one goal in the second half with the defence working together the highlights included Thomas stealing the ball in his own half and surging forward to force a corner, James bringing the ball well out of defence and a superb save from William diving backwards to hold on to the ball on the goal line.

Man-of-the-match went to Thomas.
