David Neale and John Ellis won the fourball betterball medal at Royston Golf Club with a scintillating net 59. Both players contributed equally to the score and with Ellis's net eagle on the 10th followed by Neale's net eagle on the 11th they finished three shots ahead of runners-up Wayne Hunt and James McKenzie. In joint third with 65 were Eric Baker and Malcolm Meeson-Smith, Mark Weatherhead and Stuart Hart, Steve Gorman and Graham Cartwright, Pete Dunbar and Martin Shipley and Derek Hayden and Maurice Conybear. The Saturday Stableford, played in gusty conditions, was won by Brian Holson with 38 points, closely followed by the consistent Adrian Shoebridge. - Alf Viney was presented with honorary membership of Royston Golf Club last week. The presentation was made at the senior section's annual dinner by the club chairman Dave Musgrave, to mark Alf's 90th birthday and to celebrate his 55 years as a club member. Alf is a past captain of the club and still plays golf at Royston at least once a week, which is outstanding as it is very hilly and demanding course. Our picture shows senior captain John Galaway, left, congratulating Alf.
