ROYSTON'S rising golf star Dominic Clemons conquered competition from across the British Isles at the HSBC Wee Wonder Grand Final to book a tee at the 2009 World Championships.

The six-year-old Melbourn Primary School pupil enjoyed a memorable Bank Holiday weekend at St Andrews, competing alongside 105 other children.

And after finishing ahead of more than 3,500 other competitors to qualify, Dominic booked his dream ticket to the United States, shooting 38 and 33 to take the five-six category crown.

He said: "I really enjoyed playing at St Andrews. I was a little bit nervous, playing in front of so many people.

"It was a good experience and I'll keep on practicing so that I can do my best."

Dominic had qualified along with 12 other children at the Aldwickbury Park Golf Club regional event.

Wee Wonders founder Alasdair Good - regarded as one of the world's best junior coaches, hailed the US-bound golfers and predicted Royston youngster Dominic could one day return to St Andrews as an Open champion.

"To get to play St Andrews is every golfer's dream," he said.

"In the years to come I'm sure we'll see Dominic lifting the Claret Jug and I'll be delighted if they can say 'I got into golf playing the Wee Wonders'."

In the UK, HSBC supports a number of initiatives, including the HSBC Wee Wonders tournament, open to all young golfers aged between five and 12. For more information visit www.hsbcgolf.com
