Royston Ladies II 2 Berkhamstead & Hemel 1 A dominant performance saw Royston take the league points on Saturday. Royston battled hard to win the ball in the midfield, with excellent linked play between Kate Nankivell, Lucy Davidson and Sarah Farmer creating a number of opportunities for the forwards. The hosts were awarded a number of short corners but were thwarted in their attempts to convert any of these into a goal until mid-way through the first half, when a strong strike from Lucy Davidson made it past the Hemel keeper. Royston faced a reinvigorated Hemel side after half time and had to improve the standard of their own game to maintain their lead. Sterling defence work from player of the match Kerry Alexander on the right wing, allowed Royston to gain the advantage of a second goal when Gemma Hoad slipped the ball to Davidson, who caught a shot off a Hemel foot to give Royston a secure lead. Even with a Hemel goal 20 minutes before the final whistle Royston were not to be outdone and came away with a much-deserved win. Royston Ladies 2 Letchworth Ladies 1 ROYSTON made the perfect start to the second half of their season with a victory against neighbours Letchworth. After 20 minutes of flowing hockey the home side put together some perfect match play resulting in a superb nearside post goal from Jenny Carrol. Royston played as a tight unit, distributing the ball evenly across the field. However, Letchworth were eager to score and after a couple of short corners, Royston were off guard and the visitors equalised five minutes before half-time. After the break, Royston dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Their play was more structured, positions were held and opportunities were made. After near misses, Sarah Buckerfield hammered home a fine second goal to seal the victory. Royston Ladies III 1 Tring Ladies III 4 A GOOD start did not prevent Royston slipping to defeat, on Saturday. Royston started well and had lots of play and several attacking short corners in the first 15 minutes of play but lost momentum and were 3-0 down at half time. After the break, Royston came out more positively with fantastic play into the Tring area. Helen Miles made a superb pass to Lisa Thompson who cracked home a superb goal. Royston were unlucky to concede a fourth goal with strong play from Catherine Johnson, Hazel Polge and Sarah Holland.
