Sawbridgeworth U-8 2 Melbourn Dynamos Tigers 0

THIS was an even game that was well contested by both sides, but the difference was the Sawbridgeworth finishing.

The home side started well, with Melbourn having keeper Connor Dip to thank for a number of good saves.

In midfield Ryan Barton made some great challenges, while Seb Bishop and Matthew Harris looked lively up front for the Tigers - both were denied a clear run at goal by Sawbridgeworth's central defenders.

Despite Dynamos' hard work, Sawbridgeworth opened the scoring after winning possession from a Melbourn goal-kick and worked the ball into the box and finished with a well-taken effort just before half-time.

Melbourn started the second-half strongly, with Luke Eades making a couple of good runs down the left.

At the back Andrew Chitty had another strong game, supported by Charlotte Knight and Jack Morley.

But Sawbridgeworth again pushed forward and forced a succession of corners.

And it was from a corner that they grabbed their second goal, after a flighted cross was met by an attacker.

Melbourn threw everything at the Sawbridgeworth defence forcing four successive corners in the last five minutes.

Unfortunately for them, their efforts went unrewarded as the Sawbridgeworth defence dug deep.

Dip was named player-of-the-match after a fine performance in goal, making some brave saves throughout the game.

Melbourn Dynamos U-11 Tigers 0 Stevenage Town Youth Barca 5

THE Tigers played host to a well-drilled Stevenage side in an entertaining game, and despite what the scoreline suggests, it was a fairly well-contested match.

Stevenage made the most of Melbourn's defensive errors in the first-half, and capitalised on the opportunities given to them to run in 5-0 up at the break.

In the second-half Melbourn showed their determination with a display that was praised by their manager.

The Tigers' defence staved off wave after wave of Barca attacks, with Tommy Froggat putting in a commanding aerial performance, and Cameron Douglas displaying some good defending to deny the visiting side further goals.

The Melbourn front line also caused problems, with Adam Breeze and Brennan Friel constantly probing the Stevenage defence.

However, the Stevenage rearguard were also on top form, and the Tigers' efforts on goal were fruitless, despite the majority of the attacking play being in the Stevenage half.

The Town attack continued to threaten further goals and would surely have increased their tally if not for Melbourn's Ben Cattley's defending.
