ROYSTON & DIAMONDS drew an entertaining match with Littleport Town on Sunday.
Diamonds started brightly and substitute Adam Page put them ahead when his hopeful cross looped over the Littleport ‘keeper and into the net.
The lead was short lived, however, as Littleport equalised just before half time. The second half started with both teams having chances but it was Littleport who struck first after a miss-cued cross rebounded off of the crossbar right at the feet of a striker who put Littleport ahead.
Royston continued to push for an equaliser and brought on striker Geoff Crane. Crane made an almost instant impact and scored from close range after an Andy Holmes cross. Littleport then scored again to take the lead for the second time after Royston failed to clear the ball from a set piece.
Diamonds continued to attack and equalised through a Holmes tap-in. Royston were awarded a late penalty for handball, but the Littleport ‘keeper saved Jim Heydon’s spot-kick low down to his left-hand side. Royston travel to league-leaders Colleridge on Sunday.
