BUNTINGFORD COUGARS ROUND-UP

COUGARS' under-13s marched into the next round of the county cup with a 12-0 hammering of Hatfield Youth.

Hunter Diack opened the scoring and later added two more to complete his hat-trick.

Luke Reed also finished with a hat-trick with further goals being added by Charlie Ball, William Kirby, Aaron Sawyer, Sam Monkey, Harry Tuttle and James Clennell.

The under-eights maintained their unbeaten start to the season with four wins against Bishop's Stortford Rovers and Rangers.

The Blues won both their matches, 2-0 and 3-1, and were always in command. Jack McMeechan and Christopher Bowell were on target in the first match and McMeechan bagged a well deserved hat-trick in the second.

The Whites recorded 2-0 and 1-0 wins, Ryan Peck scoring all three goals from midfield and playing impressively overall.

Stortford found it hard to break down Cougars defences with Joe Tokely and Daniel Prior resolute at the back.

There also a pair of wins for the under-10s against local rivals Hormead Hares.

Cougars got off to a flying start putting on pressure in the Hares goal. Adam Read got his reward when he opened up the scoreline.

It was not long before Hormead equalised but captain Calum Brown worked his magic up front and scored twice.

After Hormead pulled another goal back, it was Jim Berry who sealed the 4-2 victory for Cougars with a shot from close range.

A well fought second match saw Cougars edge into the lead with a first half goal from Aedan Gaffney.

Many chances were not capitalised on until late on in the second half when Callum Faik scored from outside the area.

Cougars' girls under-11 welcomed Hoddesdon Owls in their first match of the season.

Buntingford were overwhelmed in the first half, conceding four goals.

In the second half, some good performances from Kirsty Pegram and Kerryn Westrip were not enough to prevent the Owls swooping to a 6-0 win.

Tommy Adeyemi's strike for the under-11 Blues was not enough to prevent them slipping out of the county cup with a 3-1 home defeat against Gadeside.

Facing Stevenage Borough, Cougars under-14s got their first point of the new season in a game which they had many chances to take all three.

Cougars dominated the first half and took the lead from Scott Piggott's well timed run into the box with Borough equalising just before half time.

In the second half Borough were stronger and took the lead from a strike outside the box. However, kept in the game by two fine saves from 'keeper Tim Rice, Cougars found the energy to dominate the final 15 minutes of the game and equalise through the feet of Scott Piggott with his second.

Josh Sewell and Liam Harler were both denied by the woodwork as Cougars looked for the win.

Josh Wagstaff's first half strike sent the under-15s into half-time level against Broxbourne in the county cup.

The second half saw the opposition fire in a further two goals - however Cougars did not give up and and Joe Scarett executed an excellent penalty, but it was too little too late.
