Ashwell CC 142-6 beat Over 141 all out by four wickets

A third win in four matches took Ashwell a step nearer to safety on Saturday, although what should have been a comfortable victory became a nervy one as wickets fell towards the end of the run chase.

Over batted first and were initially well contained by probing opening spells from Martin Talks and Gary Simmons. Between them, Talks (2-20) and Simmons (1-21) had Over reeling at 33-3, and although a number of batsmen after that got starts, none were able to push on and play a substantial innings.

Meechan top scored with 31 in the middle part of the innings while Alex Griffin bowled an excellent line and length to take 3-36 in 11 overs. Tim Moynihan claimed the final Over wickets to end with 3-12 as they were all out for 141.

Ashwell's reply got off to a solid start thanks to Steve Parkhouse (13) and Moynihan who put on 26 for the first wicket. Moynihan's knock of 54 was the backbone of the innings, and he and Tom Wallace (17) took the score up to 92 before the fall of the second wicket.

A flurry of wickets followed as Ashwell struggled to make the target, and there were just three overs remaining when Martin Talks (16*) hit the winning runs.
