DESPITE some well placed passing and defending from James Denman and Jordan Cooney, it was Stortford who took the victory on Saturday.

The first goal came in the first half from the half way line and soared over the heads of all the players.

Celtic keeper Ben Watson was unlucky not to save it but having lost the toss the home team started the game with Watson facing the sun.

The midfield teamwork was strong but not enough to push forward to score and the second half saw another goal from Stortford.

Stevenage Borough Tigers 1

WITH two players missing from their regular starting line-up, it was the visitors who started the game with more bite, winning a corner, the ball was deflected into his own goal off Robson's thigh.

From the re-start both teams were evenly matched, with Lovejoy in excellent form keeping the visitors at bay, while at the other end Norcross and Holcroft failed to hit the target on numerous occasions.

It was Robson, who making amends for his own goal, shot at goal, the ball deflected of the Tigers keeper into the net. Good teamwork was finally rewarded when Manuel cleared the ball from the home defence; the ball was picked up by Holcroft, who passed to Robson, who picked out Norcross with a fine cross-field pass who slotted past the Tigers keeper.
