STEEPLE Morden maintained their unbeaten start to their league campaign, with a 5-2 away victory over Foxton Reserves.

In this high tempo, and occasionally physical game, the visitors took the lead after 20 minutes, when Frankie Berry outpaced the Foxton defence, dinked the ball around the keeper and calmly slotted home from 10 yards.

The lead was extended with Martyn Lees cleverly beating the offside trap, controlling the ball in an instant and placing the ball in the bottom corner, leaving the Foxton goalkeeper no chance. However, Foxton dragged themselves back into the game only a minute before the half-time whistle. Foxton were awarded a throw on their left flank, Daniel Fisher received the ball on the edge of the Steeple Morden penalty box and with the visitors' defence switching off for a second, the Foxton striker did not waste his opportunity to reduce his team's deficit.

Shortly after the interval manager Kenny Watters made his first substitution. Debutant Mark Poulter made way for another debutant, Stephen Magee and he immediately had an impact on the game.

Despite not breaking his duck for the reserves, Magee put Steeple 3-1 up with a deft flick of the left boot at the near post, and only minutes later bagged his second of the game after creating himself space to shoot low into the corner of the net.

Frankie Berry grabbed his sixth goal of the season to secure the victory for Steeple Morden, before Neil Heaney drove home a fine consolation goal for Foxton.
